Black Skin Care Products
From LoveToKnow Skincare
Black skin care products usually reduce ashiness, the appearance of discolorations, may eliminate blemishes, and give the skin a healthy glow. Most black skin care products can be found online or in beauty supply stores. More and more people of African descent are choosing to use products that are natural and are created by black owned businesses. They are seeking natural solutions from company owners that are closest to the black community. Products that are marketed to African Americans attempt to fit specific needs. One of the most common concerns for African skin centers around fading dark spots that are the result of hyperpigmentation. The dark spots are most commonly the result of acne that has healed, leaving behind a dark spot on the skin. Black skin care product lines that focus on fading dark marks usually consist of a cleanser, pre-fade cleanser, and at least one type of a skin fade cream and/or gel.

Ingredients in the products include natural butters in the moisturizers and essential oils in the face serums. Carol's Daughter products are available in the Carol's Daughter stores in the US and online.
Fading Cleansers
Fading cleansers in black skin care product lines to reduce skin discoloration usually have ingredients with lightening agents (sometimes citrus-based). In general, the cleanser works as well as any to cleanse the skin, but using them alone will not make a noticeable difference in lightening dark spots, unless the cleansers are medicated. Some questionable ingredients, like propylene glycol and sodium sulfate, are found in fading cleansers and may irritate the skin.
Fade Creams
Fading creams work by chemically lightening the skin. Creams with sunscreen will help keep the area from becoming darker. Fade creams may contain octyl salicylate. This ingredient absorbs UVB rays from the sun. Various skin lightening agents, usually citrus-based, are used.
Fade Creams Found in Black Skin Care Lines
Black Opal carries several types of fade cream. The daily fade cream contains octyl methoxycinnamate, which protects the skin from the sun and is used to reduce the appearance of scarring and Unshiu Peel Extract, which is used to lighten the skin. Black Opal has a stronger product for lightening the skin, called Black Opal Essential Fade complex. Hydroquinone is listed as the first ingredient on the label. This ingredient is said to reduce melanin in the skin, according to AOL Health. The Essential Fade complex is a serum, marketed as the strongest fade cream that can be bought through the Black Opal line without a prescription. Hydroquinone, however, has been flagged by Good Guide as a chemical that can cause irritation. Test the product on an inconspicuous part of the skin before using it on the face. Ambi has fade creams in different formulas for oily, normal and dry skin. Ambi's products all contain SPF 30. The formula for oily skin is lighter than the normal version to theoretically avoid adding additional oil to an already oily complexion. The formula for dry skin is moisturizing. The active ingredients in the fading creams are hydroquinone for fading and the sunscreen octinoxate.
Skin Cleansers
Black Opal has an Acne and Blemish Control Complexion Bar, formulated to unclog pores and reduce shine, according to the Black Opal web site. Black Opal also has a wash with salicylic acid called the Skin Perfecting Acne and Blemish Wash. Ambi has a facial blemish control product with salicylic acid called Even and Clear Foaming Cleanser. Ambi also has specialized beauty bars with cocoa butter, black soap and a complexion bar for dry skin.
Other Skin Care Products for Ethnic Skin
Products containing cocoa butter are popular in the black community. Palmer's cocoa butter cream has been used for years to reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the body. Queen Helene also has a cocoa butter cream in its product line..

Delores, I'm sorry to hear about your skin concerns. Have you seen a dermatologist about the dark marks you're dealing with? Often over-the-counter products won't do the trick on stubborn marks, and it can take a stronger prescription cream to do the trick.
Hormonal issues are usually to blame for the dark chin hair and acne. You might be able to combat your blemishes with an OTC product, but again, if you'd like to get to the root of the problem and nip all of your skin problems in the bud - or at least actively begin a medically supervised treatment regimen - then your best bet is to see a doctor. Good luck.
