About La Roche-Posay

The foundation of La Roche-Posay rests in thermal spring water. The company's name is derived from the small village in central France where the water flows through fresh springs over limestone rocks. These rocks store a natural reserve of selenium, which is a powerful antioxidant known for its ability to protect the skin from early aging. It also encourages cellular preservation and is relied on to treat a number of skin disorders, including eczema and burn wounds.

The water is more than just an anti-aging miracle treatment, though. It's an anti-inflammatory that helps soothe irritated skin, making the lineup ideal for even the most sensitive skin types. La Roche-Posay offers skin care products for all types of skin, including oily and acne prone; dry to severely dry; aging; reactive and redness prone; and sensitive. Each product is classified into a specific range, making it easy for consumers to choose a regime based on their skin types.

Among the many La Roche-Posay products that have enjoyed great success in recent years is Anthelios, a sunscreen that takes advantage of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of Mexoryl, one of the most powerful UVA filters on the market.

Using La Roche Anthelios

It's a skincare must: Apply sunscreen. There's no two ways about it. It doesn't matter what your skin type might be; it is simply crucial to apply this all-important product whenever you head outdoors. With all of the information available to the general public today, it's more apparent than ever that regular sunscreen application can, in many cases, mean the difference between life and death.

La Roche Anthelios has received an almost universal nod of approval from everyone – dermatologists recommend it highly, and it's been the subject of great acclaim from magazine editors all over the world. The reason is simple. Anthelios contains Mexoryl SX, the first sunscreen sun filter to be approved by the FDA in nearly two decades. Mexoryl essentially increases the sunscreen's ability to protect the skin from UVA rays. Those same rays are the ones that cause skin cancer and premature aging, often seen in the form of leathery, sagging and wrinkly skin.

The formula is touted as light, non-greasy and fragrance-free. It is ideal for even sensitive skin, and is allergy-tested, PABA (para-amino benzoic acid)-free and even provides long lasting hydration. In short, it's the type of sunscreen that many had been hoping for.

Anthelios Products

Enjoy your time outdoors without worrying about the sun's harmful effects. Slather on one of the two products available in the La Roche Anthelios lineup. They include:

Anthelios 15 Sunscreen

This formula is water- and sweat-resistant, making it the ideal choice for active individuals. It is also non-comedogenic and has been proven by La Roche-Posay's scientific researchers to be effective while participating in vigorous outdoor activities that cause perspiration. It contains the following sun filters:

  • Mexoryl SX: Renowned not only for its UVA-fighting abilities, it's also noteworthy because it boasts high photostability. This means it does not degrade when it is exposed to sunlight, and may even continue to work up to 24 hours after the initial application!
  • Octocrylene: Another non-degrading ingredient, this helps fight UVB rays (these rays cause tans and sunburns).
  • Parsol 1789: Also known as avobenzone, it is stabilized by octocrylene and thus also will not degrade. It blocks UVA rays, as well.

Anthelios 40 Sunscreen

Longtime Anthelios users celebrated when this product hit the market. While the highest amount of Mexoryl found in a sunscreen had previously been 20, the arrival of La Roche-Posay's Anthelios 40 signified a new era in the world of sun protection. This strong protectant has been tested on photosensitive skin and contains a three percent concentration of Mexoryl SX. In addition to the above ingredients, it also contains Titanium Dioxide, which serves to enhance the product's overall protection.
