What Acne Laser Treatment Is

- ALA laser method uses an application of a special acid on the affected skin followed by laser treatment with red light. This may be used to treat inflammation and in cases of moderate to severe acne.
Lasers for Acne Scars
Laser treatment for acne scars typically uses a combination of a carbon dioxide and an Erbium laser. These work together to resurface the skin and reduce the appearance of scars. Complete results from the treatment may take months to appear.
This treatment may also be used in conjunction with other scar treatments, such as collagen injection for deep pitted or 'ice pick' scars, for the most effective results.
How Long the Procedure Lasts
The length of time a laser treatment for acne is administered is typically 15-20 minutes per session. How many sessions you will need depends on many factors, including the severity of your acne and your skin type. You may need a series of eight to fifteen sessions or more. These may be spaced days or weeks apart.
Some people maintain their acne by choosing to undergo laser treatment for acne periodically throughout their life. It is important to talk to your doctor about what the right treatment and maintenance will be for your specific condition.
