Nail Spa

What Is a Nail Spa?
Technically, a nail spa only differs from a nail salon in name. However, there is an implied difference between the two. You might go to a nail salon to get a fill on your manicure or to get your toe nails quickly filed and painted, following the standard buffing of the feet. When you make an appointment with your local nail spa, you have a right to expect a little more pampering than you’d receive at your in and out nail salon. For example, a manicure at a nail spa generally includes a few minutes spent on a relaxing hand massage. Likewise, a pedicure is a soothing experience in which your feet and ankles are massaged, paid attention to, along with the standard salon treatments.
The ambiance may vary at a nail spa, as well. The term ‘spa’ refers to a place of pampering a relaxation, namely, a mind and body experience. Some spas offer a cup of the herbal tea of your choice or a comfortable Persian bathrobe to slip into. The atmosphere tends to have décor in mind. Nearly all spas offer manicures and pedicures in their services; however, not every spa necessarily offers acrylic nail treatments.
Special Services
Nails spas offer special services not offered at a typical salon. This is often characterized by varying levels of a treatment. A nail spa may offer an express manicure lasting 15 to 20 minutes, while also offering a more indulgent manicure in which more time will be spent on tending to the client, often lasting a full 90 minutes.
Often a manicure with an extra moisturizing treatment is included. A popular one is called a paraffin treatment, in which hands or feet are applied with moisturizer, dipped into paraffin, then covered for several minutes with warm towels or electric mittens to aid in the skins absorption of the moisturizer. Even special conditions, such as suffering from ingrown nails or suffering from extremely dry feet can be slowly worked through at a nail spa that is well staffed and in no need to hurry clients out.
You can find nail spas originating in various parts of the world, such as Asian, Japanese, and European approaches. Some spas highlight their treatments that utilize special ingredients, such as tropical fruits or organic ingredients.
List of Services Offered at a Nail Spa
The following services are commonly offered at a nail spa:
- Manicure
- Pedicure
- French Pedicure
- French Manicure
- Nail Repairs
- Nail Wraps
- Nail Extensions
- Polish Change
- Paraffin Treatment

Time and Money
Treatments at a nail spa can range significantly in price, but tend to be affordable and are a great way to treat yourself to pep up your beauty care or simply to reduce stress. Procedures generally range from 10 minutes for a polish change to two hours for the ultimate in a manicure or pedicure. Again, for a simple polish change, service starts at about $10. And for one of those indulgent manicures or pedicures, in most cases, you’re not looking at over $100.
Prices vary by location. Shops located in more expensive towns tend to charge more for services. However, going into a big city - even if generally expensive - there is a lot of competition and prices reflect this. A great example is New York City. Just about anywhere you go, you’ll find a nail technician who knows what he or she is doing at a very affordable cost.
Special Considerations
Make sure to schedule an appointment, because nail spas can frequently be very busy or are simply run by appointment.
Consider searching a local online services to read reviews of nail spas in your area. You don’t want to go to one that is understaffed, as they will not take as much time as may be necessary to you the pampering you’re expecting.
