Non Surgical Face Lift

From LoveToKnow Skincare

Testing out a non-surgical face lift is a good idea before going under the knife. Not only are face lift surgeries expensive, but they also require time to recover. For those afraid of going under the knife, non-surgical lifts may be the way to go. Others who are considering surgery may want to try a non-surgical alternative to see if surgery is really necessary.

Non-Surgical Face Lift: Techniques

For those who want to try a non-surgical face lift, there are many options available. These techniques may be more suited to someone younger, who is in the early stages of aging. Those with more advanced signs of aging may find that these methods only help smooth fine lines, but do not have an effect on deeper wrinkles, darker age spots, and other signs of aging. Non-surgical face lifts have fewer complications than traditional face lifts, but results often last much shorter periods of time, depending on the method used.

Different techniques used to produce face lifts include:

  • Topical creams
  • Facial exercises
  • Office procedures
  • Skin resurfacing techniques

Non-surgical techniques may also need to be repeated several times in order to get the results you are looking for in a product. Some methods require daily use (topical creams) or bi-weekly or monthly treatments to achieve the look you want. Even then, the results are usually not as dramatic as a traditional face lift.

Topical Creams and Facial Exercises

Using topical creams to achieve tighter, younger looking skin is a great option. These creams are very affordable (ranging anywhere from $10 to upwards of more than $100) a tube or bottle. They can smooth fine lines, fade sun spots, and help plump the skin. However, most require daily use. They usually do not give drastic results and it may take a long time before results are noticed.

Facial exercises are another popular way for people to reduce wrinkles, lines, and give themselves a general face lift. Whether or not these really work will have to be judged on an individual basis, as with any procedure or anti aging technique. Facial exercises, such as jaw flexing and moving the cheekbones and eyes in certain ways, are thought by some to increase muscle tone, therefore increasing skin tone. In fact, some companies even sell products that claim to help with the exercises, such as the Facial Flex.

Office Procedures

Having an office procedure done by a dermatologist can reap many more benefits than at-home creams and exercises. Results are longer lasting and more dramatic. Unfortunately, they also cost significantly more money then anything you can do at home.

Thermage

One office procedure gaining momentum is thermage. Heat generated from a radio frequency device is used on the skin to tighten and lift. While not entirely painless, it only takes several hours to complete. Seeing results can take up to several weeks or months.

Botox

Another popular technique is to use Botox. Botox is a highly popular form of non-surgical face lift. A series of injections is given to a patient to diminish wrinkles and soften skin. It is most effective in the brow and forehead area.

Collagen

Collagen injections are yet another popular office procedure. Collagen is a natural substance found in the body. It is injected into wrinkles to decrease their depth and appearance.

Photo Treatment

Various forms of light or photo treatment are used in a doctor’s office to reduce the signs of photo-aging (aging caused by sun damage). These techniques can reduce redness and sun/aging spots.

Skin Resurfacing Techniques

Skin resurfacing techniques can reduce the signs of aging. Some procedures have at-home versions in lower, less effective, but more affordable doses. The more complicated and expensive treatments available at dermatologists’ offices may have more healing time and be more expensive, but produce greater results.

These techniques include:

Carefully consider each method before choosing your method for a non-surgical face lift. Make sure you give each product an ample amount of time to work before discarding it and moving on to a new technique. Follow directions or doctor’s orders carefully for maximum effectiveness with the least amount of discomfort.
