Skin Cancer Signs
From LoveToKnow Skincare
Noticing skin cancer signs on your body can be a frightening experience. However, the earlier you get these diagnosed, the better your chances for recovery!
A Skin Cancer Scare
It seems as if the media unleashes new cancer dangers upon our already fragile mindsets every day. One of the most prominent of those cancers covered is skin cancer. While known as a serious cancer that can cause severe illness and death, it is also encouraging to know that skin cancer can be thoroughly treatable when caught early enough. Unfortunately, many adults simply do not know how to check for skin cancer symptoms on their body that can help to save their lives.
Symptoms are almost always found on the skin itself, as this disease develops through damaged skin that has been exposed to the sun. This can include any place your epidermis reaches, including the lips, ears, scalp, and hands. However, it can also develop on parts of the body that are rarely exposed to the sun, such as your palms, the skin between your toes, and even the genital area.
Unlike other cancers, skin cancer does not discriminate between men and women, and it has been diagnosed within all races and age ranges.
Knowing what symptoms to look for can make all the difference, and maybe even save your life.
Skin Cancer Signs to Look For
Always check your body for new moles, birthmarks, abnormal freckling, or skin lesions. Any change in pigmentation on adult skin can be a cancer symptom giveaway. These can appear very suddenly or develop more slowly over time. The slower the development, the closer you must pay attention as you may not notice its subtle evolution on your skin.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer. It is, fortunately, also the easiest to treat. A symptom you may notice if you have contracted basal cell carcinoma is a bump on your face or neck that feels waxy or has a pearl quality to it. You may also have a beige or brown lesion on the chest or back that is flat. It can also be flesh colored; if this is the case, noticing it can be tricky.
Melanoma
Melanoma is the most dangerous of skin cancers, and often when you hear about fatalities, this genre of the disease played a large part. This severe cancer can appear on skin that's otherwise normal, or can gestate in a mole you have had since birth. It is usually pinpointed on the upper back or facial area of both men and women.
Catching melanoma early is vital for recovery, so see you doctor immediately if you experience:
- A mole or birthmark anywhere on your person that has changed in color or size, is sensitive to touch, or bleeds.
- Any lesion or mark that has irregular borders on it. It can be white, blue, red, or black, and is hardly ever symmetrical.
- A brown colored spot anywhere on your person that has darker spots or freckles within it.
Kaposi Sarcoma
Known to be a rare cancer, this one actually develops inside of your skin’s blood vessels, making it tricky to detect and challenging to treat. You may notice purple patches on your skin if you have this cancer. At times they are also red in color.
There are a few other types of skin cancer that are less known and yet still a health risk. The best choice you can make for your health is to report any abnormalities immediately to your doctor, and perhaps pay a visit to your dermatologist to learn more about skin cancer and how to recognize its danger signs.
Prevention
The best way to keep skin cancer signs and the disease away from your life is to practice smart sunbathing, which actually means to not do it at all! Countless Americans still opt to lay out during the summer months and to visit tanning salons in the winter, both of which are horrifically damaging to your skin.
Instead, stay beautiful with one of the new and improved sunless tanners available and wear light fabrics while in the sun. Skin cancer signs can come out of nowhere, however it is in your power to largely decrease your likelihood of acquiring the disease.
