Thanks for the great comment, David! I completely agree about men getting pedicures. At the very least, it's an ideal way to maintain the feet. Some brands do offer masculine colors, as you said, so that is definitely an option too!

Pedicures are Great! They really can relax you after a stressfull day, and they help your feet stay healthy and looking good too.

As far as buffing or polish for men, I have mine buffed to keep them looking smooth and well cared-for. It is less maintenance than polish because it does not chip (but it will grow out in time).

I have tried polish a few times (yes, men can wear it!) when I wanted something with a little more pizzaz and there are a number of companies that offer polish for men now in masculine colors. It's something different to try if you want a change.

Guy, thanks so much for your input. Yet more great reasons for men to discover the wonders of a great pedicure!

don't look the best, but look much better after a French manicure. And here's another advantage. I suffer arthritis in my knees, hips and back and trimming my own toenails can be quite painful. So much easier to let someone else do it.

I'm a 51 year old male who just recently discovered the pleasure of a salon pedicure, and the ego boost I give myself when I look at my toes and see a French pedicure. The foot bath and exfoliation are especially good for tired feet. My toenail

Ellen, this is definitely true! There seems to be a growing acceptance of men's pedicures, and it's something more and more men are turning to nowadays. What you say about "cleaned up" feet is especially true!

-- Contributed by: Tsharma

I think men's feet are generally not very attractive because they don't do anything to take care of them. But, if a guy were to get a pedicure and have his feet properly 'cleaned up', it shows he cares about what his feet look (and feel) like, and it would look much better thant 'typical'. I also think that a french treatment would look great on a guy. I have seen some men wearing polish before (even colored) on their feet and it really looks great! I don't think that french looks feminine or masculine, just nice and clean. More men (and even women) should really do this!

Thanks for your kind words, Michael! So glad you liked the article. I agree there are plenty of colors out there now for men to take advantage of - it's just a matter of finding the right shade and formula.

I agree that a pedicure can be very relaxing and enjoyable - for guys too! My wife and I enjoy these regularly as our once-a-month treat to each other.

I have tried a french (or is it 'american?) pedicure and liked the way it left my feet looking clean and groomed. However, the tips would show chipping after a few days, so I have moved on to using solid colors, and mostly darker shades now.

For a guy, it's hard to find colors that don't look feminine, but thanks to the recent popularity of black, greys, and even some greens there are more options for us men now. I also like the Man Glaze polish because it is not only available in colors that work for a guy, but the finish is not so glossy looking either.

I have to say that it is kind of liberating to be able to wear my toes polished. I get compliments all of the time and I think I have even influenced a few gals to talk their husbands/BFs into trying it too!

Thank you for the good article. It's very mind-opening!

Danielle, thank you for sharing that. You and your partner were brilliant to do that - it helps to make men feel more comfortable in salons, that's for sure. What types of colors do your male clientele seem to go for?

-- Contributed by: Tsharma

Tsharma, my partner and I operate a salon where we try make every effort to cater to both men and women. Since we actually have some male clients who ask for polish with their pedicure, we have developed a color swatch collection just for men so they don't have to feel so self-concious looking through reds, pinks and other more feminine colors. We have seen this trend gaining in popularity for men and we think it's great! (it's good for business too). There is no reason why men should not have great-looking feet, and with sandal weather coming up soon, all the more reason for guys to get their toes 'dressed up'.

Thank you for the good converstaion about this subject.

Suzi definitely knows her stuff, Jason! I totally agree with her about proper foot care - it's as important for the guys as it is for women. At the very least, it's about great hygiene. Thanks for sharing that...her blog is fabulous.

Tsharma, I have been wearing my toenails polished for many years, but it wasn't until recently that I discovered that at least one respected professional in the beauty industry openly endorses it. On the OPI web site, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the Executive VP & Artistic Director, regularly comments on popular beauty trends. If you select "for men" you will find a number of entries aimed at the guys. Look up the post for June 9 (Toe Be or Not Toe Be), you will find that Suzi activley promotes good foot care (pedicures) and even the use of colored nail polish for men. She even suggests a number of colors that men can wear that are not exclusively feminine.

This is a breath of fresh air coming from the cosmetic industry, because it openly encourages men to take better care of their feet and not be afraid to express their fun and creative side!

Dave and Jeff, you are both 100% right. I wish other guys shared your mentality about proper foot care. At the very least, keeping the feet well moisturized is a step in the right direction. Thanks for your great comments!

I get french pedicures all the time. I like the way they look. It looks great on women and men alike. It is my opinion that if people wear open shoes, flip flops, sandles or any other shoe that shows toes make them look good. No one wants to see ugly unkept nails.

You make a good point. If men take better care of their feet, they will be more accepted when they wear sandals. The health advantages are a plus too, no more ingrown toenails, fungus and odor. I have noticed more men opting for the polish too, and think that it's another good thing. It demonstrates that they care about what their feet look like, and it may even be the beginning of a trend that says men are interested in trying different things to be more interesing and enticing to women. Great article and comments!

Stephanie, I couldn't agree more. A little foot maintenance is something more men should embrace!

-- Contributed by: Tsharma

This is great! I wish more men would take a bit of pride and try and make their feet look respectable. Polish is hot and makes a man a man...i'm not talking pinks and bright colors, but a soft french or natural colors look simply fantastic on men. I would also recommend laser on the feet hair guys. Be proud, show off your feet. Spa and Salons should be pushing men to cover up those ugly unmanaged toenails!!! Toe rings are hot too!

Nothing wrong with a little pampering, is there? Men certainly gain a greater appreciation for the female beauty regimen if they take part in it themselves! Glad to hear you're enjoying your experience with nail treatments, Jake.

I was introduced to professional pedicures by my then g/f (now wife) who said my feet were 'discusting'. It took more than one treatment to get them to look presentable (in her opinion), but it was certainly worth it! The experience is very satisfying and enjoyable. I chose no polish the first few times, but then (and with my wife's coaxing) I began experimenting with a little color to dress them up a bit. I am currently wearing a medium brown colored polish and have tried maroon (dark), black (with silver over the top) and french. My feet feel much better than they ever did, I have fewer problems with ingorwn toenails and I am now much more comfortable wearing open sandals in public. I highly recommend it guys!

Sounds fun, Ed!

i had my toenails painted bright pink and had the french white tip placed on the end with a pretty pink and green flower on the big toes.....i love my feet now....they are sooooo sexy!!

I agree with you, Frank. It might encourage more men to actually get it done if they know the service is especially for them.

John, I think it's a matter of personal preference. If an individual finds the hair unsightly, then a quick wax treatment will easily remove it in a matter of seconds!

-- Contributed by: Tsharma

More salons and spas need to mention it on their line cards and promote it.

I have had this done and done by the right salon, looks great! It looks natural and hides the ugliness of toenails. Women always have good things to say when noticed. One salon referred to this as the "American" finish rather than "French" becuase they often use a softer shade of white. Be yourself, take a break and enjoy your confidence. Thank you Lynda

Now the question is...should men have the hair on toes and feet taken off? I think we should, two salons have told me th same (I have light whisps of hair on feet and a few toes)

-- Contributed by: John

I agree 100%, MetroGuy! There's nothing better than a man who puts a little extra effort in :)

The french pedicure on a guy looks amazing. I've had it done several times and my wife loves it. I frequently get comments from women on the street who admire my feet and think it looks great. I've had women tell me how sexy it looks and others have told me they wish their men would do the same. I take care of myself and women appreciate it. From waxing my brows or getting a manicure or pedicure, people notice. It does make an improvement to one's appearance. Get to the spa guys, you wish you hadn't waited so long!!!
