Rich, thanks for the great recommendation.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaHibiclens is an over the counter topical scrub that will help a lot. Personally I lack healthcare but I am hairy and I can't seem to permanently overcome these. I keep them in check with the hibiclens but when I leave sweat on my body for too long it seems the hair follicles get infected so I have to give them a scrub and usually they are gone in a day or so.

It's possible that part of your ankle is simply prone to irritation, or it could even be the work of an ingrown hair that becomes infected, leading to an abscess or boil.
-- Contributed by: Tsharma12 years ago I had a painful boil on the back of my ankle. Could barely walk. Doctor put me on antibiotic treatment and it cleared up in a few days. Recently It happened again behind same ankle and antibiotics cleared it up. What do you think causes this to happen? I am 68 and in good health.

In this case, it's wise to see a doctor instead of attempting your own fix-it simply because you want to determine what exactly is causing the boils.
The fact that they come and go and that you have several of them at once could signify something that needs professional treatment. Don't be worried or ashamed. You'd be surprised at just how common this problem is, actually. Good luck.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaHey I have mutiple boils on my buttocks. There are usually several of them there at once and every now and then they burst or just go away. I have had them for several years now but i just started researching what to do to get rid of them. I'm too embarrassed to go see a doctor after this long and was wondering if there was anything I could try to make them go away before I absolutely have to go see a physician?

There is really no way your doctor could guarantee that it wouldn't come back after the first surgery; unfortunately, it's more common for them to recur than not. Above all else, the key is to keep the area clean, dry and hair-free. This means wiping the area to complete dryness after a bowel movement and removing any hair in the area.
Sitz baths are thought to be helpful because they help drain the fluid from the area. Warm compresses may also be helpful. Try soaking a gauze pad with very warm to nearly hot water and holding it against the area for as long as 10 minutes. You may need to use several pads, but it has been known to be very effective. Finally, visit Pilonidal.org for support from fellow sufferers. Good luck!

It's especially common during the summer - friction and heat can cause it, for example. Your comfrey powder/cayenne pepper concoction sounds very interesting and I'm pleased you've found something that works for you.
Let us know if you have any questions! Best of luck.

-- Contributed by: AsoyeSorry to hear that, Jeff - I know it must be a pain. I'd encourage you to read the Dark Pimples on Buttock article, which touches briefly on boils in that area. Is it possible you have a recurring Pilonidal cyst?

For an at-home remedy, very warm water compresses applied to the area for at least 20 minutes at a time may help to bring down the inflammation and comfort you. However, since it's a consistent problem, I would recommend visiting your dermatologist to find out if there is a more stringent treatment. Good luck to you.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaI have a sever case of boils it has been on my body for years now-whenever one goes away another comes up. I really dont know what to do. I also suffer from excema but that is under control. The boils appear in the inside of my thighs and on my armpits, please help me to find a cure.
-- Contributed by: DonneMichael, sorry to hear about this. Yes, boils are a common problem among diabetics. Since diabetes makes it difficult for the body to fight infection, even bacterial infections of the skin can result in things like boils or carbuncles. It is essential that you watch your sugar intake, for reasons beyond the boils! Good luck to you.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaI have problems with boils if I do not stick to my diabetes diet, for instancce a cake was brought in the house and I binged on it and a day later broke out with three painful boils,on my wrist, calf and knee. Is this possible from suger?-- Contributed by: michael evans
