Thanks for mentioning that, Lydia. I've always known bed bugs to manifest themselves in "bites of three," but there's no hard and fast rule to that. Hopefully Jennifer has found some relief now.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaJennifer, It sounds as though you may have been bitten by bed bugs. Have your parents to inspect your room and especially your bed for these annoying creatures.
-- Contributed by: LydiaMark, I'm sorry to hear that - I know you have to be pretty uncomfortable, to say the least. Had you changed your regimen at all at the time when this started? As I said below, it could be anything from laundry detergent to shampoo. It could even be a food allergy, although that is less likely. I wish you good luck finding a solution!
-- Contributed by: TsharmaHi, I'm in my mid 20's and I've had a skin rash for over 2 years. It started out a tiny patch on my shoulder and it has grown to cover half my back up my neck and is now starting to cover my chest. It's small little red dots that after a while seem to join together and make the skin look spotched with brown. I've been seeing a doctor about it, he's been giving me all kinds of different pills and lotions, hesgotten so confounded he's finally sending me to a dermitoligist, but I have a six month wait. My doctor can't figure it out hoping some skin expert can. The product that worked the best was lamisil, but it took 2 months to get rid of most of it, and it just came back.
-- Contributed by: MarkBrittany, sorry to hear about your fiance's problem. It sounds like he's developed an irritation of some sort, or possibly an allergic reaction. Has he recently switched to something new, like a shampoo, soap, body wash or lotion? Are the bumps itchy? The rash could also be caused by a new laundry detergent. These are just some ideas to consider.
I always do recommend that people see their doctor in these types of cases, though. It's impossible to diagnose it properly, and in your fiance's case he'll enjoy having the peace of mind after it's been checked out. Having it looked at it is really no big deal, and chances are the doctor will be able to prescribe something effective. Good luck.
-- Contributed by: Tsharmamy fiance went to bed one night and woke up the next morning with a really bad rash. we do not know what it is, he does not want to go to the doctor. so i have to do this on the down low. his rash looks like mosquito bites, but they are all over his left shoulder and beginning to spread to his chest. and on top of the bumps there is like a red bubble one minute and the next it is just red. what could this be. please contact me
-- Contributed by: brittanyJennifer, thanks so much for writing. I'm sorry to hear about this problem you're dealing with. If you have recently used any new products, like soap, or a laundry detergent, that may be responsible for the spots and rash-like symptoms you're experiencing. Have you (or your parents) used anything new lately?
In the meantime, please tell your parents about this and have them take you to a skin doctor, who will examine your skin and prescribe a treatment for the condition. Good luck to you.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaUmm, I'm 10 years old, and I checked my arm today, and I found a large, pink rash. It looked like a fleet of mosquitoes had been there, and when my dad told me to take a shower, I found many more pink spots all over my body. 2 on my chest, many small odd shapes on my stomach area, a mosquito like rash (quite large) on my back, and two on each of my arms, many dots on my legs, and small ones on my neck/shoulder. It's sort of scaring me...Is this from allergies, or is it from bugs/plants? I don't have allergies, unless it's something very rare...
-- Contributed by: JenniferCharlene, I'm so sorry to hear this. Have you recently added any new products to your regiment - detergents, soaps, shampoos, lotions? Any of these could be a potential culprit if you're suffering an allergic reaction. Check with your dermatologist to be safe.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaI have a rash around my neck, it is bumps and swelling. It is spreading to completly around neck. New rash is starting on knees.
-- Contributed by: Charlene BrownThat's interesting, PJ. I'm sorry to hear about your problem. It does seem like some kind of allergic reaction to something, but it would be impossible for me to determine what. You may need to undergo allergy tests to get to the bottom of it, which will require a visit to your dermatologist. Good luck with everything.
-- Contributed by: Tsharmapart 2 the marks and scratches goes away within 30mints to an hour. No longer than that usually. Get all over my body . Feels hot and little itchy. Just annoying when I can even put pressure on any part of my skin before it causes a bumps around the area . Even a simple back massage turns into a hassle cause, with in few mints, my back will swell up with bumps and hot and itchy feeling.
-- Contributed by: PJHi, I've been getting rashes, bump marks , or scratch marks and even my hands and feet. A little scratch get really big and kinda feel hot around the mark. Even laying down wrong or my things in my pocket and makes marks or looks like a bugbite or something. I think something is really wrong cause, I know I had this over 6 months. I thought maybe it was soap, this med i was taking , or even laundry soap . I have no clue and I have no insurance so this is my last thing before heading out to see someone any ideas>?
-- Contributed by: PJSherry, I'm so sorry to hear about this! It must be very frustrating. I'm even more sorry that I haven't heard of this type of rash. My first thought was that you were exposed to something that caused a severe allergic reaction, although the mirroring effect is quite unusual. I wish you the best of luck in determining the cause and finally curing the problem.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaMy rash began apprx 10 weeks ago, July 17. It mirrors itself. Both ankles, both calves, both feet , then both forearms, both hands, both ears, both eyes, same corners of each. Hot, red, blistered. Five types of doctors seen in this period of time, bloodwork, biopsy. Tomorrow I go in for allergy testing. Ever hear d of this?
-- Contributed by: SherryPatti, it's hard to say what that is without seeing it, and even then I wouldn't be in the position to diagnose you. However, it could be something as common as a reaction to your detergent. You may want to visit your dermatologist for more information.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaMisty, this may be an infection of some kind. I wouldn't hazard a guess in any event because I am not a doctor, but do visit your dermatologist for a concrete diagnosis. Best of luck.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaPeach, it's possible you're suffering an allergic reaction to the Omeprazole. Possible side effects of this medication include skin rashes that mirror what you are describing. To be safe, I recommend visiting your dermatologist.
-- Contributed by: Tsharmai have developed a slightly red raised area on my inner knee area, the areas that touches when you put your knees together. it started as a bumpy map like area and has expanded to a circle approx 8cm diameter. i just noted another small one on the inner upper arm. they are not itchy or painful. some days it fades out a bit other days it is bumpy.
-- Contributed by: pattiIT STARTED WITH A SMALL PUMP, NOW I HAVE A BAD RASH IN MY UPPER BACK CHEST AND UPPER ARMS , ITCHES AMD PUSS COMES OUT MIDDLE I AMD 41 YEARS OLD . WHAT CAN THIS BE
-- Contributed by: mistyI have developed what look like bites around my neck, chest and jaw line but haven't actually been bitten. Before I start to itch I get very hot skin around these areas. Could this be hives? I am also taking Omeprazole for acid reflux and have been for nearly a year but could this have anything to do with it?
-- Contributed by: PeachKady, this is such a common problem among women - you are definitely not alone. Your razor itself could be the culprit, or it could well be whatever substance you are using to shave with (soap or shaving cream, for example). Start over with a fresh razor. I'd recommend Gilette Venus disposables for sensitive skin. They're triple-bladed, cushioned and also have a vitamin E and aloe strip for added moisture.
I also highly recommend Aveeno's Positively Smooth shaving gel. It's formulated for sensitive skin and helps prevent razor burn. It also contains soy extracts, which are supposed to minimize hair growth over time, but I'm more a fan of its soothing properties. It helps provide a great, close shave.
After you've shaved, wait a bit before applying any type of moisturizer. Even lotions formulated for irritated skin can burn a bit if applied too quickly. Choose a thick, creamy formula that contains soothing aloe. Fruit of the Earth makes an excellent moisturizer that's loaded with healing ingredients and is super cheap (less than $2 at most drugstores).
Good luck!
-- Contributed by: TsharmaHello, my name is Kady and I am seventeen years old. I started to develop some kind of rash on my legs when I first started shaving. Describing the rash is difficult. The pores on my legs seem much irritated by my razors. I have tried using ointment recommended by my doctor but it is not helping much. I get red bumpy spots on my legs and it seems I always get razor burn. Do you have any advice?
-- Contributed by: KadyKelli, my best advice right now would be to stay out of the sun and avoid tanning beds. Sun exposure can absolutely cause lupus patients great discomfort. Sunscreen is your best friend - reapply it liberally every two hours, and make sure you're using a product of at least SPF 30. Avoid spending time in the sun between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm. The rays are at their peak and can cause the most damage during that time.
You might even consider wearing wide-brimmed hats and sun-protective clothes when you're out and about this summer. It must be stressed, though, that your best bet is to avoid the sun, tanning beds and even bare fluorescent bulbs. Good luck and take good care!
-- Contributed by: TsharmaHello, I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus and Sjorgrens about 4 months ago.. about a month a half I started breaking out with horrible itchy rashes due to tanning bed. since then I have broke out in small rashes with fever over different parts of my body - 1 to 4 daily. Yesterday I had over 10 rashes with all fever itching like poison ivy. Its like they are getting longer and more often.. Do you have anything on this - I was out in the sun last weekend -garage sale - and ended up with a butterfly rashes and rashes all over my face.. I will be visiting with my Dermotologist soon.. but I wanted to see if you have anything I can read about all this? Thank you..
-- Contributed by: KelliThanks for the recommendations, Kay! The link to George's Cream is here. Hopefully it will help someone!
-- Contributed by: Tsharmaif you can get ahold of George's skin cream, that sometimes works better than Aveeno, because it's grease based. It's not very pleasant feeling cream but it's better than the skin irritation. I have severe problems with my skin, and applying it right after a shower helps. In the spring (it's very dry here) it tends to be the worst, so right now I've got problems. Take cool showers...it soothes. avoid soap...you can get non-soap based body washes from Dove, drink a lot of water. More than I'm betting you drink, I try...but I find it difficult to drink as much water as I'm supposed to, too. But hydrating your body will hydrate your skin, so 8 glasses (not cups) of water a day. good luck
-- Contributed by: KayNika, I'd advise the same to you as I did to Megan. It's so unfortunate that your son is going through this! We aren't doctors and therefore cannot diagnose any type of skin condition, but we can suggest you visit a dermatologist to rule out any type of skin condition. At the very least, the doctor will be able to recommend a suitable treatment. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: TsharmaMegan, that's a tough one. I'm sorry to hear about your son's rash, although I'm glad that he's not in any discomfort. Could the mouthwash be causing the rash? Although anything is possible, it's highly unlikely. It's more probable that he's suffering an allergic reaction to an ingredient in his soap or shampoo. Have you switched to anything new in recent months? While switching to all-natural products is a great idea, I'd advise you to see a dermatologist to rule out any skin conditions. Rashes do not necessary mean anything serious, and they can be treated with prescription medications if needed. Good luck.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaMy son broke out in these little bumps all over his body and face that look like heat bumps. They are even on his mouth. They are not noticeble unles you are close or rub his skin. He is also peeling in the groin area. I am not sure what this is. It is not itchy or anything but I dont know what to do for him.
-- Contributed by: NikaAbout a week ago, I noticed a few slightly red bumps on my sons stomach. By the next day, they had spread to his entire body, even the back of his ears. For the most part, they are the same color as his skin, but in the evenings, they tend to get redder. They don't itch and they don't seem to be bothering him. I was waiting them out and praying for him. It just came to me today, that we introduced mouthwash to him and he might not be spitting it all out. Could that be the cause? Neither my husband or I are allergic to anything. Tonight, we watched him with an organic body wash, used Cetaphil cream and skipped the mouthwash. What are your thoughts?
-- Contributed by: MeganAsh, I'm so sorry to hear about this! It's possible you've got an infection at the site of your wound; sometimes they manifest themselves even after the injured area begins to look "normal." Please see your dermatologist to receive prompt treatment. Good luck.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaI have this small wound on my thumb which i got from hitting it with a hammer, just knicked the top layer of skin off but then got cement on it so burnt a bit. Any way that was a week ago and it was healing up fine, but know i woke up and had these extremely itchy bump like blisters surrounding the wound in a ring then spreading down my thumb. They look clear some of the big ones have a little black dot in them. When i knock it the itch gets worse and the skin tightens as they grow makin movement stiff, sometimes they pulse like a heart beat n move. I have had this a few times before but not this bad. Any idea what it is? The itching is driving me mad!
-- Contributed by: AshTina, often conditions treated with steroids will recur once you discontinue using the medication. This is truly unfortunate since it's not ideal to apply steroids to the skin or ingest them on a continuous basis. Check with your dermatologist - he or she may prescribe more medication or recommend a new skincare regimen. This may not be poison oak; it could easily be eczema or another form of dermatitis. Good luck.
-- Contributed by: TsharmaI am having the exact same experience as Kelli. I had a rash on my shin that we thought was poison oak a couple of months ago and the doctor treated it with steroids by mouth and then with a steroid creme. It finally went away. Last week it reappeared. I was wondering if Kelli found out what it was?? I have not been around any kind of poison oak that I know of - besides that, it is winter now.
-- Contributed by: TinaHi Kelli, thanks for your comment and sorry to hear you're going through this! It sounds like it could be any number of things. If you live in a dry climate, it's possible your skin is severely parched and in need of much more moisture than it receives currently. If you scratch these areas, they can manifest themselves in the form of itchy bumps.
It could also be anything from an allergic reaction to eczema, but there's no way to tell without a proper diagnosis. I'd recommend that you see your dermatologist to get to the root of the problem. In the meantime, adhere to these tips and you should hopefully experience some relief:
- Avoid hot water and harsh soap. Use a mild body cleanser, like an anti-itch shower gel from Aveeno, and rinse with lukewarm water.
- Pat your skin dry after showering, and leave it just slightly damp.
- Then apply a moisturizer like Aveeno's Soothing Relief Moisture Cream. It contains colloidal oatmeal, which is a natural anti-itch agent.
- Try not to rub or scratch the area.
Good luck!
-- Contributed by: TsharmaI received a rash on my shin that looked like a bad case of poison oak (itchy raised bumps over entire front of shin). I thought my cat gave it to me, from outside, so I gave the cat to my boyfriend. After about a month it finally went away. I now live with boyfriend and cat, but we moved to the high desert, where I don't see any poison oak, and the rash came back on both legs. It's been several weeks and it's not going away. What is it?
